Ellen Page isn’t the only star making headlines recently, having to divulge difficult personal experiences in hopes that as a society we will be grow from these shared accounts. However, when researching Page’s work, the entire first page of Google results only turned up her recent account of Brett Ratner’s behavior. While her experience should be heard and not buried, I couldn’t help but feel a little disheartened - Is this what you’ll find when you google “Ellen Page” for the rest of her life? Now that she has shared her story of sexual harassment and discrimination, will she only ever be labeled a victim?
With the anniversary of the release of Juno, I wanted to write a story about Page’s style and career evolution. But now it just feels cheap. Even so, I reviewed photos from red carpets and previous events and it’s hard not to notice that she’s become a stronger and more confident woman over the years. Unabashed in her beliefs of being a pro-choice feminist, a vegan, and an advocate for the LGBTQ community, Page has really found her voice and spoken up for what she believes in. She’s even admitted to making mistakes in her career and personal life, most recently revealing that she feels ashamed for starring in the Woody Allen movie, To Rome With Love. I think most women can relate to those feelings of embarrassment and shame, especially when it comes to advancing your career. How does one join the “Boy’s Club” when you aren’t a boy?
Now, with all that’s said and done, Ellen Page can move forward. Scroll through our short gallery below and see for yourself.
