FAQ

What Is This Company Really All About?

Maggie Richmond (MR) is about using the highest quality material, supporting individual expressions, emulating family heritage and driving women empowerment. Temporary is not our thing. Costume jewelry is fun, but a couple years down the road, it loses whatever value it did have, breaks, falls apart and constantly needs replaced. Using real gold stands the test of time and grants our clients the best materials available with unquestionable authenticity.  (MR) is a luxurious gold jewelry brand for the “girl boss.” The company was founded to empower today’s women to express themselves through their accessories.  The name Maggie Richmond evokes Addie’s grandmother, a classy lady who valued education, strength, love, and determination. Who better to name a company after than a woman who knew “the future was female” before “girl power” was even a thing? The company mission is to scout and curate innovative jewelry styles made of precious metals and other high quality materials for the Maggie Richmond family.  When heart and soul is poured into a collection, it should be cherished and valued rather than flashy fast-fashion that does not pass the test of time.

Allergies? “I’ve worn all gold jewelry before and I broke out. Will I be allergic to this type of gold”?

So, real talk: chances are you may not have been wearing real gold, or it wasn’t as high quality of gold you thought it was. Our yellow and rose gold are nickel free, but the white gold does have slight amounts of nickel in it and is nickel compliant. Keep in mind gold is soft by itself, sometimes it is mixed with other metals like nickel for color and to harden it up. This is where the allergy aspect comes into play. More than likely, you were not allergic to the gold per say, but the nickel that was mixed in. Also, please do not take this commentary as you would accept commentary from a doctor. If you even remotely suspect any allergic reactions, remove jewelry immediately, wash with soap and water then call your doctor asap! Do not take any risks and make sure you are positive the gold you’re buying is real gold. Also, you get what you pay for. So, if you’re paying $40 for a set of “real gold” bangles, sorry sweetie. They’re more than likely not real gold, or their more nickel than anything else. To play it safe, the higher karat you buy, the less likely it is you will have an allergic reaction because the higher the karat the lower the amount of alloys mixed in. If you’re not sure if you have an allergy to any metals, get a patch test or other test by your dermatologist. Play it safe! Your health is not worth the risk!

          Real Gold?

Real gold lasts a loooooooong time! So, it is an investment, and you get what you pay for. But it always holds its’ value and will be with you for a long time to come! If the gold jewelry you’re wearing turns your skin green, it may have more alloys in it than you realize. The higher the karat the lower the amount of alloys that are mixed in. So be mindful of the price tag and make an investment in yourself. We all love our bargains, but the real deal is not always cheap! Costume jewelry is great for the pocket book and looks, but if you really want something that will last a long time and will have a relatively stable value,  gold jewelry is the way to go!

What’s The Difference Between White, Rose and Yellow Gold?

Pigment pigment pigment! All these precious metals are the real deal! So, in order to keep them durable for wear and tear, they are mixed with other metals to keep them together. Characteristically white gold has nickel mixed in to give it that brilliant white. Yellow gold has copper and other metal to keep it the pure yellow gold color, likewise with rose gold-same principle for strength, just different metals to encourage that rose gold shade we all love!

Do the 14k and 18k white gold rings turn yellow over time?

In order to be able to give white gold its’ pure white color, it is plated with rhodium, which is pretty standard for 14K & 18K white gold jewelry. The rhodium plating can wear off over time, just very slowly. If that happens, you might see the raw off-white color of the white gold. If this happens we suggest visiting your local jeweler to have your ring rhodium dipped and polished. In fact this is general jewelry upkeep we recommend to all clients.

          Is The Gold Certified?

How this works for us, is we pay for all our gold from our manufacturers up front, before any of the jewelry is even made. Whether or not you’re happy with the items you purchased, there is a reason you do not have to send it back to the manufacturer: because we already paid for it! If you reference our Customer Service page, you will see all returned items are to be sent back to us. Exchanges, returns and so on are not done through the manufacturers because once the gold is paid for, they’re part of the job is done. The rest is up to us! So, it should comfort you to know that even we invest in our product all up front. We buy only 10K, 14K and 18k gold, yellow white and rose. So, have no fear!

          Where is your gold manufactured?

          Turkey and China

          Is the gold ethically sourced?

Yes, all gold on our site meets the ethical compliance standards set forth by the Responsible Jewellery Council. Our manufacturer meets the Responsible Jewellery Council’s, “whole-of-supply chain standards initiative for the jewellery supply chain, from mine to retail. It is unique in its participation of organizations at every step of the value chain, each brining a commitment to responsible supply chain and implementation of responsible business.”

How Do I Know I Am Getting Real Gold?

By law in the United States all gold items must be stamped. This means that every single item should have a stamp indicating the karat type i.e. 10k. 14k, 18k somewhere on the piece. If you don’t see a stamp right away take a second look. These stamps are notoriously small and can be hidden in places you don’t expect. You may even need a loupe to see the stamp. Real gold is a soft and malleable material so examine the surface of your jewelry item. Often times you will see microscopic dents and scratches that come for the daily handling of the gold item.  You may think this devalues the item but that is not true. These tiny, tiny, tiny marks are often times just unavoidable and not noticeable to the average eye.

How Does This Product Handle Wear and Tear?

Like most luxury products our gold jewelry needs to be handled with gentle care and attention. Be mindful to remove jewelry prior to any strenuous activities or sleep for the jewelry’s safety and yours. Take time to polish your gold and store it in a place where little ones can’t reach. In order to reduce the heaviness of some pieces such as hoops and some rings we have designed them to be of a hollow construction. Hollow styles are slightly more delicate and can dent easily if you apply too much pressure on a single pin point. You must remember to be especially gentle when wearing and when storing these items.
